NoFap was coined on Reddit in 2011 in the middle of an online conversation between people who had sworn off masturbation. The term NoFap is now a trademarked name and a business and came from the word“fap” – which meant to jerk off. What started as a casual discussion is now a website and a known organization that promotes the quitting of not just masturbation, but also porn and other sexual behaviors. The fueled the 2011 Reddit discussion and started a chain reaction that created a legitimate movement that is now counter to pornography. The community is growing large ever since its inception. But, there is ever increasing scientific evidence about the downside effects in the neuro-endocrine system regarding porn over-consumption as seen only in the traditional substance abuse addicted brain. Many of these men even have Porn Induced Erectile Dysfunction (PIED) which is an ever increasing issue for many Millennials and Generation Zers.
The one thing that many NoFappers have in common is that they suffer from a pornography addiction and compulsive masturbation habits albeit for various reasons. In general, sex is a good thing and the NoFap movement wants men and women to actually have sex with someone they care for – not just watch porn and masturbate. Masturbating to the point where it affects your everyday life creates a pathology as well as loneliness and that is what makes fapping a serious issue.
